"Local extreme weather" is an introduction, and it is also a certain mixed reflection of the individual's internal world. The work originates from several implied texts and fictional scenes, and as the events and spaces shift, a seemingly bombarded architectural structure remains, and the texts that were the source of the initial thoughts become dispensable in retrospect. It is extremely cold, followed by a buzzing, slight coolness, and then slowly warms up and heats up until it loses consciousness. The inexplicable engine that mobilizes individual sensory perceptions, from the cave to the kitchen, from reality to the virtual, from body to consciousness, it is ambiguous, contradictory, indescribable, and flooded with continuous interest.
Under globalization, the resources we share have become diverse yet homogenous. Localized material surpluses are accompanied by common environmental and epidemiological problems. The artist borrows anthropomorphic humor to switch his emotions to the fruit, the standardized "bananas" on the industrial production line have a kind of impatient individual desire, "peaches" and "watermelons” are cut and digested in the heat of the summer. The birds that cannot travel far are parked in front of the window waiting for the arrival of autumn and the unknown.
Everyday habits usually create many blind spots in our subjective viewing. In expanding the perspective and breadth of my viewing, I present my discussion of the relationship between superimposed images by renewing my visual experience. The "Order Series" takes the everyday object - playing cards as the entry point, in which thin and sharp cards are stacked on top of each other, and the stacking produces fogging edge lines of each other, thus the pattern tends to be flattened or even fused. A game of order and perspective. The layered aluminum plates in "Between Series" create a segmentation relationship between the images, and also create a space of dislocation for the images in the same position. A discussion about the superposition of objects and carriers in the image.
The white light disperses seven colors through a prism, and the background colors of the two works in this exhibition are blue and green, respectively. The River of Light passes through the shape of a top-down staircase, a form that forms a dialogue with Dan Flavin's fluorescent tube installations, which transforms a finite space into an infinite one. The waterfall hanging in the distance of the former river is like water like light, "suspected to be the Milky Way falling into the sky", pours down with a breath that fills the original seemingly solidified space and time with the vitality and vigor of life.
As the peak of material consumption and information civilization continues to rise, our bodies and consciousness are shaped by a series of "landscapes", presenting a desperate "complexity". I translate the surprise, dismay, excitement, indignation, and even uneasiness I feel in them into my paintings. The concrete elements that appear in the paintings are the pictorial embodiment of these feelings, such as seeing and tasting durian for the first time; witnessing a microwave oven without a visible heat source heating up something in just a few minutes, or even seconds; feeling the terror and joy of roller skating for the first time; feeling overwhelmed when using a printer for the first time; experiencing the dizziness of alcohol for the first time; realizing the ugliness of politics for the first time. ... Through deconstructing, reorganizing and re-creating these fragmentary elements, I compose a social scene that I perceive now, echoing the uncertainty of the future.
The cell phone has somehow become an extension of the modern human body, and this extension has the possibility of rebound the subject. Suddenly, I realized that apart from sleeping, I spend more than half of my day using my phone, looking at, interacting with, consuming, and immersing myself in the various apps on the screen. The brightly colored rounded squares seemed to have a "soul-capturing" effect, and the defenses of the will were easily defeated in front of them. I was captured and controlled in a "box", which was like a "niche" for me to worship.
"History looks serious as a ghost. For a moment you wonder if it really possesses itself, whether it really connects time and space into a circle, so that those who commemorate others are, at this moment, as if reciting their own funeral oration as well." Classical painting brings a kind of spiritual credibility and dependence to later generations due to the screening and sedimentation of history, but it also contrasts strongly with the sense of uncertainty and loss of trust that comes from living in real life. In our genes flows the ancient spiritual consciousness, and in the darkness, in the unknowable, "ghosts" borrow paintings to complete the manifestation of phantom dreams.
My WeChat friends and I express ourselves fragmentally or emotionally and read, comment and like others in WeChat Moments. Then these messages will be thrown to the cloud in sequence without followings. Afterwards, I collected and printed out a whole year’s WeChat Moments on a paper roll, returned to the WeChat Moments, re-browsed and burned it in the form of live broadcast.
From 2020.7.18 to 2021.7.17, I took screenshots to archive my WeChat Moments every day. Based on the 7 cm screen width of mobile phone, I printed out a one year’s WeChat Moments record, which was 2045.64 meters. I spread the hard copy of WeChat Moments from downstairs along the road as a running routine, and finished the running of my WeChat Moments in 13’6”17.
When it comes to emotions, it usually means fluctuations, and some emotional changes are like the weather, happening suddenly. The weather forecast is not 100% accurate, but it will it will give people a precaution in advance. Strong emotions come, like a storm, easily and completely sweep away mind of reason. Long-term fluctuations and drama, internal conflict will be intensified. I'll freeze the moment I'm in, jump out and make a self-observation.
People often have attempts to build a new world, both spiritually and materially. During the period of epidemic, the content of my paintings has changed from the previous abstract pattern collage to the depiction of natural landscapes. The compatibility of digital patterns and natural landscapes creates a visionary world of images that could heal myself. Here, a flower is a world: nectar splashes out, rain falls on the petals, and it gathers into a pool of blue water at the stamens, spreading into a lakeside beauty. I walked away from the rules of reality and walked into the world as I wished.
