Lu Jialin was born in Harbin, Heilongjiang, and later moved to Nanning, Guangxi, to attend the Guangxi University of Arts. This move across the country from north to south, with its vast cultural and geographical differences, provided Lu Jialin with a unique sense of unfamiliarity and novelty. In his studies and creations, he has used extensive plein air painting to gradually understand this new environment. Without preconceived notions, these works transcend the typical perceptions of Guangxi, presenting a rare sense of relaxation and lightness—the solo exhibition at Hunsand Space (Shijiazhuang) in 2023 is a reflection of such works.
In this exhibition, Lu Jialin's new works gradually depart from pure plein air painting. Some pieces start with photographic documentation, followed by adjustments and development of movements and colors back in the studio. As a result, they no longer simply recreate a moment in time and its emotions, but rather, after the sedimentation of time and the convergence of emotions, present a summarized insight that comes from "understanding." Consequently, linear time is condensed into something non-instantaneous, transforming everyday glimpses into solemn moments, welcoming viewers into this world of " Sprite".
