Qiu ShiJie:Back and Forth
Shiwan Space is very honored to launch Qiu Shijie's second personal project: Ruminating in the Future.
If Qiu Shijie’s last solo exhibition "The Universe Upside Down" presented the expression of "cognitive basis", then "future rumination" is based on the premise of "cognitive basis", setting the observation point in the future. At a moment, what is regurgitated is a long timeline so far. This kind of imagination is based on the premise of a thorough understanding of historical evolution. The artist uses this method of pushing the other to work continuously in the overlap of the past and the future. "Rumination" is the meaning of this round-trip parade.
Specific to the works of Qiu Shijie, we can also see the shadows of the past and the future in art history at any time: on the one hand, in the development of his personal artistic language, there are both very realistic sculpture language and poetic abstract language. On the other hand, in terms of the finished form of his works, the completely formed works and rough models are mixed with each other, and even some new works are only presented in the form of "models".
These works record the evolution of Qiu Shijie's cognition of historical development, which not only includes his understanding of the past and the present, but also conveys his uncertainty about the future. It is precisely in this kind of repetition that the artist repeatedly confirms and confirms certain existence, just as he used the construction of environment and scenes to continuously force the emergence of "coordinates" in the exhibition "The Universe Upside Down". Precisely because of this, there is no clear boundary between personal cognition and macro-historical works in these works, and there is no macro-historical suppression of individuals, because they mutually confirm each other and promote the imagination of the future.
But this imagination is not limited to this, daily experience also plays a role for it, and because the future of this imagination is full of uncertainty, the question is generated, and the rumination begins and continues. Therefore, everyday clutter has become an important theme in Qiu Shijie's work-it not only constitutes a personal experience, but also props up the macro-historical framework-and together with another theme "subversion of space", together in this exhibition appear. They visualize many metaphors, and at the same time directly point to the audience's live experience.
