Sun Daliang
Born in 1971 in Xuzhou, graduated from the Stage Design Department of Shanghai Theatre Academy in 1997. In 2000, he began living and creating on a small island in the outskirts of Nanjing.
Sun Daliang resides on the island near the city year-round, which has heightened his sensory perception. Immersed in the cognition and experience of mysticism, he explores his inner self in solitude and silence, attempting self-redemption. He constantly oscillates between reality and dreams, giving rise to a surrealistic artistic style that is both bright and dark, clear and obscure, familiar and strange, with a sense of absurdity. Light and energy are subtly concealed in the majority of Sun Daliang's works, weaving a possibility of warmth. With restrained language and concise narration, his works give birth to implicit meanings that are more open to interpretation.
